SUMMIT WORKGROUPS: Shaping the Future of Interpreting

The 3rd North American Summit on Interpreting will continue the groundbreaking work accomplished at the 2nd Summit through our Professional Identity Workgroup Sessions. Be sure to visit our Publications section to download the White Paper that captures the critical finding and recommendations from those sessions.

At the 3rd Summit, attendees will lend their expertise and energy to deepening this profession-wide dialog on the following topics:

1. Is It Time for a Generalist Interpreter Certification? Roundtable for Professional Associations and Interpreter Certification Organizations
2. Contemplating a National Consortium for Interpreter Trainers and Educators
3. Towards a Working Technology Partnership for the Interpreting Profession
4. Creating Connections with End Users of Interpreting Services: From LEPs to LSPs
5. One Profession, One Voice: Selling the Interpreting Profession to the Public

The workgroups are designed to allow participants to:

• Leverage the in-depth expertise and knowledge Summit participants bring with them from all corners of the interpreting profession;
• Facilitate the collaborative creation of solutions, networks, and alternatives through mutual sharing and problem-solving, that
• Result in relevant, concrete and implementable “take home” alternatives for participants and for the profession.

Conference participants can choose the workgroup most relevant to their interests, which will be moderated by recognized experts in that topic. Workgroups will be provided with targeted discussion points to facilitate the analysis of key issues in each area, and a framework for providing recommendations for the profession.

Participant findings and recommendations will be presented during the final afternoon plenary. Post conference, the ideas generated will be published as a White Paper on Professional Interpreter Identity, which will be made available to all participants.

When you register for the 3rd North American Summit on Interpreting, please indicate which workgroup you would like to participate in so we can measure levels of interest and plan sufficient space. You will be free to switch groups at the actual Summit.
