About InterpretAmerica

Our Mission is to provide a national forum
for the interpreting profession.

Welcome!

InterpretAmerica, LLC was established in 2009 to provide a national forum for the interpreting profession. At InterpretAmerica, we feel the time is ripe for our field to unite around its similarities. Our goal is to provide an open and ongoing forum where key players from all branches of interpreting can gather and foster greater connection among its many sectors. Through conferences, discussion groups, our website, and other activities, we work to bring together the community, conference, legal, medical, military, and signed language interpreting sectors, as well as educators, buyers and vendors in the interpreting field. InterpretAmerica seeks to elevate the profile and reach of the interpreting industry to the benefit of all.

In June, 2010, we launched the North American Summit on Interpreting. The first two summits took place in the Washington, DC area. Each time between 150-180 leaders from across the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America gathered to take stock of our profession. The unique plenary-style sessions ensure a shared understanding and rich dialog on topics critical to our profession, ranging from the ongoing impact of technology and our professional identity, to the market and legislative realities we all must navigate.

The Summits have generated several new, seminal publications available for free download on our Publications page, which include:

1.    Interpreting: Full Speed Ahead, Blazing a Trail Toward National Unity
2.    The Interpreting Marketplace Study
3.    Overview of State & Federal Legislation Relevant to the Interpreting Profession

Planning for the 3rd North American Summit on Interpreting is underway. 21st Century Interpreting: Staying Relevant in a Transforming Word will take place June 15 and 16, 2012 in Monterey, California. For more information, click here.

The time has come for interpreters to step out of their background roles as seamless facilitators of communication, and into a place that allows our contributions to society, democracy, diplomacy, and history to be fully recognized; into a place where we can come together, be counted, and guide our craft. At InterpretAmerica, our efforts are focused on innovative and effective ways to support this vision.

We invite you to explore our website, review our publications, learn about upcoming events and contribute to our ongoing discussion forum.

This ground-breaking report chronicles the results of the 5 professional identity workgroups held at the 2nd North American Summit on Interpreting in June, 2011. Interpreting leaders from across North America rolled up their sleeves and began the hard work of addressing key issues cohesively and collaboratively across sectors.
